Hidden Eye Ring
This sterling silver ring was created through an improvisational process where I, working outward from the stone, cut, shape, and connect one wire at a time to create an organic and symmetrical design that responds to the unique qualities of the gem. The design plays with a theme of “hide and reveal,” where different elements of the ring are more visible when it is worn and when it is not. When worn, the ring reveals an hidden eye pattern that can be seen from the wearer’s palm, adding an element of surprise and whimsy that balances out the visual presence of the stone. When taken off and held to the light, the visual gaps of the symmetrical ring band design intersect to create new and interesting shapes, allowing the ring to be fully appreciated in the round.
At the center of this ring is a unique flat top oval cut dendritic agate, which is suspended off of the finger with the soft point of the stone just barely grazing the skin. This is one of three dendritic agates we had in stock at The Northwoods Goldsmith, and I have yet to find another with the same unique cut. The images below show progress images from the start of construction through to the finished work.
