The Looking Glass Pendant

This pendant was specially commissioned to showcase a flawless 8.5mm oval rainbow moonstone cabochon. The client was a long term customer with a lot of energy and curiosity, so I knew that she would appreciate a design that was soothing to the touch and which encouraged discovery and play. As its name suggests, the Looking Glass Pendant displays the transparent moonstone over a circular aperture so that it can act as a lens when it is held up to the light. The gentle twisting stem of the pendant doubles as its handle, and is made accessible by a long 24” silver wheat chain which gives ample room for movement and play. The whole design was hand carved out of wax and cast in sterling silver.

Unfortunately I never got a chance to take high quality light box images of this pendant, but below are a number of progress shots, including the concept design, wax carving, and two videos showcasing the unique optics of the moonstone.
