The Hale Pendant
This pendant was commissioned by a friend as a gift for someone close to them, with the prompt to set a rough agate that they’d found while walking the seashore together. This was my first time working with a stone in the rough, and I was intrigued by the depth of meaning behind behind the rock at the center of their story. The final design explored a contrast of strength and tenderness, using natural branch and leaf forms to cradle the agate, within a sturdy, symmetrical teardrop form that I find reminiscent of a chess piece. The images below are ordered in progress from the concept image, construction of the body of the pendant, the process of engraving the leaves, and images of the finished pendant. Constructed in sterilium silver, with a sterling silver chain.
